About Tradansa

Tradansa offers school aged children and teens, their teachers and parents throughout the world the opportunity to learn inspiring dances from a variety of cultures and traditions.
These workshops are successful because they offer students, young and old, a stimulating and enjoyable instructional format.  At the same time, these inspiring programs fulfill school curriculum requirements for physical activity, language development and multicultural education.
Tradansa participants tell us “All the dances are fun and interactive. The instructors explain the steps clearly and with gestures. Tradansa makes it easy for the kids to learn the steps in just a few days. Wow! Well done!”
Parents also tell us that they notice after the workshops a boost in their children’s self-esteem along with a new awareness and respect for cultural diversity. The workshops put a happy jump in their step!
At the Tradansa workshops, everyone has great time learning while curriculum requirements are met!
With a minimum of three dance workshops, the children are focused, everyone enjoys themselves and performs a showcase for their parents and the school community.  Even with the minimal amount of practice, the students get it with flying colors every time!

Karaté à Waswanipi Novembre 2011

Étienne Hérady Sensei

On a contract with the Cree Nation of Waswanipi Recreation Department, Étienne took it upon his own to come to the gymnasium to work with the Waswanipi Rainbow Elementary Grade 1 to 6 Physical Education students.

** The following videos are on Youtube and not accessible within the CSB schools. You can view them from home**

It would be great if Rainbow School (CSB) and the Cree Nation of Waswanipi (Recreation Department) could integrate Combat Activities to the Elementary Physical Education curriculum on a 5-Year pilot project.

In the present schedule format, it would be nice that each students has at least 4-6 classes a year of Combat Activities.

Watch him work with students. Look at his dedication and attention to each student. He is excellent and he has a great presence in the gymnasium. The students respect him and follow his commands. He knows how to push it enough but without losing his audience.

His passion and dedication for his sport is contagious.

We feel very fortunate to have him work with our students. Thank you to the Cree Nation of Waswanipi (Recreation Department) for this added value to our PE curriculum.

The AVERAGE RAINBOW STUDENT

The 255 students at RAINBOW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL were tested and measured in term 1 (August to November 2011).

Here is a summary that demonstrates what the average student look like and some details about the above average students on certain activities.

ITEMS MEASURED:

  • Height (cm)
  • Weight (lbs)
  • Beep Test: Cardiovascular test measuring the anaerobic capacity (endurance running) of the students. It consists of running between 2 cones, keeping up with the pace of the BEEPS. The same pace is done for all grades but the distance varies for each cycle. Cycle 1 (Grade 1-2: 15 meters, Grade 3-4: 18 meters, Grade 5-6: 20 meters)
The participant has his/her two feet behind the starting line.
At the beep , he/she must get to the other side of the gym before the BEEP.
At the BEEP, the students have to run to the line, when it BEEPS again,
they return to the starting point and so forth.
The BEEPS becomes closer and closer as the test progresses so the students have to run faster.
